Special Edition: The Unsung Heroes - The Guardsman

Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

Hello guys! So I think this is my last post of the list of "Unsung Heroes" around the world. As this is the last, I would like to brought to you a special post! Please have a look. :)

The man who sacrifices himself to save an Afghan child from harm

This post is special as it present a story about an "Unsung Hero" who managed to save a child from the moving armored fighting vehicle. However, after saving the child from a moving MRAP, the Rhode Island National Guardsman had no time left to get himself out of harm’s way.

Spc. Dennis Weichel, Jr., 29, who was less than a month into his March 2012 deployment to Afghanistan suddenly noticed that multiple Afghan children were running into the path of their convoy. He and one of the member from his unit dismounted to direct the children to safety, as hulking MRAPs barrelled down on them.

The children complied. But one boy raced to pick up brass shell casings in the road and Weichel saw the boy head into the path of the approaching to MRAP and he immediately react to save the child. The Afghan child was still alive and uninjured. However Weichel was run over by the massive truck and was mortally wounded. He then died from his injuries.

Weichel then was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star.

What a sad story ;'). However he have done a powerful good deed. :)
